Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson continue to explore co-parenting after their marriage is finalized.
Jodie Turner-Smith is never letting her marriage obstruct that fact by emphasizing the importance of a mom in a toddler’s existence, especially a Black mother in a mixed child. The artist from” Queen and Slim” finalized her divorce from her husband of four times, Joshua Jackson, in May 2025, as previously reported by theGrio.
The former pair is still content with their four-year-old child Juno’s class and prison despite Jackson’s agreement to pay$ 2, 787 in regular child support and a lump sum rather than regular spousal support. Apparently, Turner-Smith wrote a letter to her ex-husband pleading her case as the pair worked out a prison deal over the summer, posing as Juno.
” Hi Josh. I appreciate you sending me your information. According to a report from US Weekly,” I appreciate you explaining how smooth the production timeline can be.” Your commitment to take into account that flexibility is what really matters. I’m glad we both understand that our common goal is to give Juno as little stability, consistency, and valuable time as possible. You make it clear to me that this is ultimately her day with each of us, certainly the other way around, which is admirable. That frame seems significant.
” This arrangement gives Juno a real sense of continuity and existence, which we both benefit. She’s excited about our vacation ideas, and I think this time will help her feel incredibly grounded and connected during a time that’s obviously more flexible and open,” Turner-Smith wrote.
She continued,” I want to bring up something that has been deeply weighing on me, and it’s rooted in far-reaching research as well.” You and I talked in length about what she would have to develop into a robust, self-assured young man before Juno was born.
The artist from” Queen and Slim” goes on to explain that “research consistently shows that the maternal bond is foundational,” “playing a vital role in personality development, emotional tenacity, and long-term mental well-being” for biracial children, especially with a Black mom.”
The significance of the maternal bond, she continued, and more specifically, the crucial role that being close to her Black mother would play in shaping her identity and self-esteem, she said. These are not abstract concepts, they are. They have daily, lived realities that Juno is already beginning to experience. And one of the most effective ways to support her through them is the consistency of our time together, especially when school is out and there is room for deeper connection.
” That vision we once shared is unwavering.” And it begins with the assurance that Juno is not only protected, but also affirmed, reflected, and deeply rooted in who she is, she said in the letter to her ex.
It’s obvious that both parties want what’s best for Juno as the couple navigate what Turner-Smith previously described as a” complicated” co-parenting relationship.
