Kristin Cabot, a.k.a. the woman whose face was blasted on the big screen during a Coldplay concert in July in a viral clip, is finally speaking out. But does what she have to say help or hurt her now all these months later? We’ll let you decide.
As we previously told you, video footage of tech company Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company’s Chief People Officer Cabot gained traction on social media when the two appeared on the Jumbotron at a Coldplay concert.
The romantic embrace between the two, captured on screen, was abruptly cut short when they realized they were being broadcasted to the entire concert audience. Immediately, they separated; the man quickly moved out of the camera’s view, and the woman turned her back, attempting to conceal her face. Despite their efforts, they were caught.
Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin then decided to poke fun at their reaction, saying: “Oh look at these two. Alright, come on. You’re OK. Wait, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
Not too long after that night, it appeared the two were seemingly in an entanglement of sorts as it later came out that they both were married to other people. That being the case, Byron stepped down from his position as did Cabot later. Astronomer also announced it’d be launching a “formal investigation” into the incident and eventually replaced Byron’s role.
At the time, Martin spoke out about the incident and now Cabot is adding her two cents to the conversation.
Speaking in an interview for the New York Times published on Thursday, Cabot referred to the moment as a “bad decision” and Byron as her “big happy crush.” Now if you’re wondering how a married woman could develop a crush, it would be because she and her husband. CEO of Privateer Rum Andrew Cabot, were allegedly “were privately and amicably separated several weeks before the Coldplay concert.”
Reflecting on the moment, Cabot explained: “I made a bad decision and had a couple of High Noons and danced and acted inappropriately with my boss. And it’s not nothing. And I took accountability and I gave up my career for that. That’s the price I chose to pay. I want my kids to know that you can make mistakes, and you can really screw up, but you don’t have to be threatened to be killed for them.”
She went on to say that she and Byron found commonality through their mutual separations and that “sort of strengthened [their] connection” prior to the concert. Fast forward to the event, the two were out with Cabot’s close friends and were indulging in a couple of “tequila cocktails” when the cuddle session on the big screen took place.
“I was so embarrassed and so horrified. I’m the head of HR, and he’s the CEO. It’s, like, so cliché and so bad,” Cabot said.
What’s more is that Cabot said her children were afraid for her and their safety as they were receiving death threats in the immediate aftermath of the situation. Cabot also shared that she and Byron no longer communicate as they agreed shortly after the backlash that “speaking with each other was going to make it too hard for everyone to move on and heal.” Cabot also filed for divorce from her husband, in mid-August per the New York Post.
