A viral TikTok is turning heads and warming hearts, as a Black woman recalls the moment a Black man wooed her despite being, what she calls, “bald-headed and badly built.” Though we can’t confirm every detail of what happened or that whether the tik toker truly doesn’t know she’s easy on the eyes, the story has struck a chord with over a million viewers, shining a light on beauty standards, vulnerability, and dating culture in the Black community.
The ordeal went down in the parking lot, when content creator Black Barbie locked eyes with a man in the parking lot who caught her attention. After minutes of them talking, she expressed that she began to get suspicious, wondering if he truly saw her and what she looked like, before going any further.
“Do you see me?” she asked, “Are you looking at me? You know under this hat, I’m bald headed,” she clarified. “I’m looking right at you,” she recalled the man saying, adding that “he liked what he saw.”
“Y’all. This man — a Black man at that — is interested in me. That’s what it seems like,” she expressed. “I’m bald headed and dark, and bad built. Let’s just be honest with eachother… let’s normalize knowing what we have and what we don’t have.”
She continued in awe that the Black man was interested, repeating ” Bald headed big back bad built me? WOW. And he answered me when I asked him ‘Do you see me?’ I wanted to make sure there were no misunderstandings… that man said, ‘Yes.’”
Folks were touched by this story, not just because of the connection alone, but because so many Black women — and men alike — have experienced the vulnerability of being overlooked or unseen. And unexpectedly, the comments section became more of a healing session, and the vibes were immaculate.
“Strong men like strong women,” one man encouraged.
“I wish you peace and joy. We have moments when we see a person’s soul and spirit and that catches our attention more than the physical. Be blessed my sister,” a second wrote
“Sister, my heart dropped when you said ‘Do you see me?’ He saw you. That brother saw you,” another added.
“You mentioned being dark. PLEASE stop seeing that as something negative. I have ALWAYS been that girl. Dark skin is GOLD. There is something luscious about being in this skin. Fall in love with yourself. Everything else, including love will follow,” a fourth penned.
“I think you better keep that 🗝️Key out. We ( Black Men) don’t see nothing wrong with you❤️❤️,” a man encouraged.
“Sadly a lot of dark skin women walk around invisible to black men. I am happy for you. only a few men wish to see beyond societies stereotype of what is pretty,” another added.
