Australia won the toss and decided to bowl against New Zealand
Mitchell Marsh won the toss and probably didn’t need to confirm he was going to bowl first in the final T20I at Bay Oval. The weather had cleared for the time being at least – after delaying the toss by 15 minutes – although there was the threat of more rain during the game.
Both sides went with unchanged XIs after only 13 balls were possible in the second match on Friday. It means Sean Abbott keeps his spot for Australia ahead of Ben Dwarshuis, while New Zealand retain Jimmy Neesham in the middle order, Ish Sodhi’s legspin and the pace of Ben Sears.
The washout yesterday meant Australia retained the Chappell-Hadlee trophy but if New Zealand could level the series it would be an early-season boost for them. After this series they face England in white-ball cricket while Australia play India at home from mid-October ahead of the Ashes.
