John Cena has officially committed to a new chapter with WWE, announcing that he has signed a five-year contract with the company in a post-Raw interview.
The deal will keep him closely tied to the organisation long after his in-ring retirement.
The 48-year-old icon is set to compete in his final match on December 13, when he faces Gunther at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The bout will mark the end of a two-decade career that began in 2002 and produced some of the most memorable matches, rivalries and moments in WWE history.
Gunther earned the right to face Cena by defeating LA Knight in the final of The Last Time Is Now tournament on SmackDown, setting the stage for a historic farewell.
But while Cena’s days as an active competitor are ending, his future with WWE is fully secured.
“I will be an ambassador to WWE. I am already signed on for another five years,” Cena revealed in an interview on WWE’s YouTube channel.
“I would like to be in this family as an employee and as a contributing part for as long as I can.”
Cena acknowledged that he can no longer perform at the physical level demanded by the current product, but emphasised that stepping away from the ring does not diminish his connection to WWE.
“I can’t match up with the product now, and that’s okay because what I do isn’t who I am,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to the second mountain of being an ambassador, because maybe ambassadorship comes with letting more people know to watch WWE — which was my goal in the first place.”
The multi-time world champion, actor and global ambassador leaves behind a legacy defined by longevity, consistency and unmatched crowd connection. His influence transcended eras, from the Ruthless Aggression days to the modern, globally expanded WWE.
As Cena prepares to walk down the ramp one final time — with Gunther standing across the ring as his last opponent — WWE fans will witness the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another.
Cena may be retiring from in-ring competition, but his new role ensures that he will remain one of the most visible and influential figures in WWE for years to come.
