Life comes at you fast, and now Sherrone Moore knows this all too well. Last week, Moore was the head football coach of the University of Michigan, one of the most prestigious programs in college football. In a stunning turn of events, Moore was fired “for cause” by the University, allegedly over an intimate relationship he had with a staff member. As a married man with three daughters, he has gone from collegiate coach on the rise to bringing public shame to his family with his termination and his alleged messy lifestyle. Here’s everything that we know so far:

Michigan Staffer Ends Relationship With Moore

On Monday (Dec. 8), things began to rapidly unravel when a female member of the Michigan athletics staff allegedly broke up with Moore after the two had  “an intimate relationship for several years.”

Michigan Staffer Cooperates With Investigation

After Michigan officials launched an internal investigation into allegations that Moore was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, she cooperated  “in some form of investigation,” Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kati Rezmierski stated.

Sherrone Moore’s Termination As Head Coach

On Wednesday (Dec.10),  athletic director Warde Manuel announced that Moore had been terminated from his position as head coach, a swift fall from grace. “Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member,” the school said in an offcial statement.

Audio Released Of Moore Allegedly Entering Staffer’s Home

On Wednesday (Dec.10), a 911 dispatch audio surfaced from a call from a woman alleging that Moore was at her residence. The audio accused him of stalking her for months, and he claimed that he attempted to attack her. Court records said that Moore allegedly “showed up at the victim’s apartment after she ended the relationship and reported him to the university.” According to the police report, Moore entered the staffer’s home, grabbed several butter knives and kitchen scissors, and threatened to take his own life. Moore, according to Rezmierski, said, “I’m going to kill myself. I’m going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You ruined my life.”On a separate audio, that was reportedly made by Moore’s wife to the police, claiming that Moore was suicidal after losing his job.

Moore Is Taken Into Custody

Later on Wednesday night, Moore was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and then taken to Washtenaw County Jail. He would remain there until it was time for his arraignment.

Moore’s Alleged Actions Will Cost Him A Big Bag

In 2024, Moore signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract with Michigan, where he would potentially earn around $6 million annually with bonuses. Because he was fired for cause, his termination will not only have long-lasting ramifications on his family, but his contract will be voided, leaving on the table a potential $13-14 million that he could have procured in a buyout under “normal” circumstances. Moore’s attorneys could potentially contest the “for cause” firing, leading to a legal dispute or possible settlement.

Moore Appears Remotely For His Arraignment, Facing Felony Charges

Donning an all-white jail outfit, Moore made a remote appearance for his 15-minute arraignment on Friday (Dec.12). He was formally charged with three crimes: third-degree felony home invasion and two misdemeanors, stalking and entering without permission. Eventually, Moore was released from jail after posting a $25,000 bond, the conditions of which were stated during the hearing. A second hearing is set for Jan. 22. No plea to the charges was entered during the hearing. Following his arraignment,  Michigan football posted a message on “X.”

“Focused on the next game.”
