The family at the center of It: Welcome to Derry‘s ensemble were the Hanlons, family members of Mike Hanlon (Chosen Jacobs and Isaiah Mustafa) from the first two films in the franchise.
It was pretty much confirmed, due to the fact that Will (Blake Cameron James) ends up having Mike, and Leroy (Steven Williams in It Chapter One, Jovan Adepo in It: Welcome to Derry) appears in the first film, that two of the three family members we meet in the HBO series would always make it out alive — at least at this point in time.
Those three Hanlon family members — Leroy, Charlotte (Taylour Paige) and Will — do in fact survive the events of It: Welcome to Derry.
While the fate of Charlotte was always speculated by fans, it is confirmed at this point in time that she does survive and was still in Derry with her husband and son — at the very least, for a period of time.
Something that fans have also speculated is that the land the Hanlons live on in the It films has some significance to keeping Derry safe from Pennywise. This is pretty much confirmed in the finale.
The Hanlons decide to stay in Derry after Rose’s offer
They are planning to leave town before Rose (Kimberly Guerrero) asks them to stay in town to help. Leroy tells her that he has an honorable discharge from the military if he keeps his mouth shut, and that he doesn’t have faith in them anymore after what he and his family have been through. Rose says this makes him the perfect person to keep an eye on them and says he and Charlotte should join them and make sure no one tries to reopen the cage.
“Others will come,” she says. This isn’t the end of the story. She also decides to sell the farm and the house, and says it is too much after the death of Taniel (Joshua Odjick). She knows it is a lot to ask but says they could do a lot of good around there, and “it’ll be 27 years before that thing wakes up again.” They are honored but decline the offer, saying they’ve had enough of Derry. They decide to head out before Charlotte says she’s thinking about Rose’s offer.
What does Will write to Ronnie?
When Leroy says he thought they were done with fool missions, Charlotte says maybe their next fool mission needs to be together. He then turns and asks Will how he’d feel if they stuck around Derry. Will asks for a pen to write Ronnie (Amanda Christine) and reveals he’s staying, and says this may mean he won’t forget about what’s happened. Charlotte and Leroy then go talk to Rose about accepting the offer.
Will and Charlotte die sometime before the events of ‘It Chapter One’
We do know that Will and Charlotte die at some point before the first film, as Charlotte is not seen, and Mike is being raised by Leroy.
