Tea Ireland 265 and 88 for 3 (Tector 25*, Campher 10*, Taijul 2-29) trail Bangladesh 476 and 297 for 4 dec (Mominul 87, Shadman 78, Mahmudul 60, Mushfiqur 53*, Hoey 2-84) by 421 runs
Andy Balbirnie was Taijul’s record 247th wicket when the Ireland captain was trapped lbw playing back to a delivery around the good length in the sixth over. Paul Stirling also fell to Taijul, caught at short-leg where Mahmudul Hasan Joy accepted a simple chance. Hasan Murad then took Cade Carmichael’s wicket after he had made 19.
The day began with Bangladesh getting a couple of fours but Ireland removed Shadman Islam and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in quick succession. McBrine had Shadman lbw for 78, before Shanto became Jordan Neill’s first Test wicket when he couldn’t deal with a delivery that jumped from a good length.
Mominul and Mushfiqur took on the Ireland spinners with plenty of ones and twos and the odd boundary every few overs and added 123 in 167 balls before Mominul’s wicket signalled the close of the innings.
