Michael Archer II is opening up about the death of his parents, Angie Stone and D’Angelo. Archer talked about the legendary artists, who died seven months apart this year, when he sat down for an interview on Tamron Hall.
Michael Archer II described his mother, Angie Stone, as his ‘best friend’
Speaking with Tamron Hall, Archer said his mom, who was undergoing kidney dialysis, died in a car accident on the day after she was approved for a kidney transplant. Although Stone was still alive after her car was first struck, she died when another vehicle slammed into her overturned car a short time later. Archer also said her death came a day after his birthday, according to The Shade Room.
Archer said his mom was like his best friend. After his mom’s death, Archer said he’s experiencing a painful silence and he’s missing their conversations while stuck in traffic.
“I’d give anything to give one of them calls again,” the grieving son said on The Tamron Hall Show.
Archer said he was planning to spend time with his mother in the days before her death, but she encouraged him to go out and celebrate his birthday. While Archer decided to go celebrate, Stone went on the road to perform.
After he played some records at the club on his birthday, Archer called his mom to tell her about the celebration. But he didn’t get an answer. When Stone later called him back, Archer missed her call. At 6 a.m. on March 1, Archer’s aunts came to his house and told him that Stone was involved in an accident. Michael then drove from Atlanta to Alabama, hoping his mom is still alive. Stone, however, had already died.

Archer revealed that his father, D’Angelo, didn’t tell him about his cancer diagnosis for a while.
He said his uncles called him one day while a doctor was on the line and shared with him that his father had cancer. Archer then traveled to New York to be with his dad. After he arrived in New York, Archer said he saw his dad sleeping and found himself in tears. But he wiped his tears when he saw his father waking up andwas excited to see him.
D’Angelo died from pancreatic cancer on Oct. 14; he was 51 years old.
