“It would be a misuse of our time and energy to provide a platform to authoritarianism, which would be undesirable, ” said the nation’s oldest civil rights organization.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, more commonly known as the NAACP, has broken a 116-year history in an extraordinary proceed against President Donald Trump and his administration ’s plans. The nation’s oldest civil rights organization announced on Monday it has decided not to encourage Trump to its annual protocol for the first time since its establishment.

“For 116 years, the NAACP has invited the sitting president of the United States to tackle the NAACP National Convention— regardless of their political party, ” the team said in a statement ahead of its convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, July 12-16.

The firm, which was important in advocating for and securing political and legal successes for Black Americans during the Jim Crow and Civil Rights periods, explained, “There is a rich background of both Republicans and Democrats attending our agreement — from Harry Truman to Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and above. We’re democratic and often welcome those who believe in politics and the Constitution. ”

Create a better and healthier you! Create a better and healthier you! Create a better and healthier you!

Citing the president ’s anti-DE I stance and proposed cuts to vital programs that many Black Americans rely on—from Medicare to education—the NAACP condemned Trump for “attacking our democracy and our civil rights. ”

“ He believes more in the fascist playbook than in the U. S. Constitution. This handbook is dramatic and un-American. The senator has signed illegal executive orders to persecute citizens and remove federal civil rights protections, ” the party explained. “ He has improperly turned the defense on our societies, and he constantly undermines every wall of our politics to make himself more strong and to personally benefit from the U. S. state. ”

Since taking office, Trump has made the removal of diversity, equity, and inclusion a key element of his presidency ’s plans. Many federal workers deemed “DE I hires ” were terminated, as were programs geared toward closing racial gaps in health disparities and environmental injustice.

The president somewhat ordered his Department of Justice to pause or near pending legal rights investigations under the Biden administration and has instead focused its attention on reported discrimination against largely light individuals. The administration also moved to close pending national investigations of police departments suspected of engaging in habits of racial discrimination and police misconduct.

Some of the Trump presidency ’s activities have resulted in complaints filed by the NAACP and another campaigning and civil rights organizations, including one suit challenging the Department of Education’s aim to remove so-called DEI from public universities.

The NAACP Convention’s goal is to bring together Black Americans, elected leaders, policy authorities, and advocates from across the nation to “map out our advocacy and recruitment strategies to improve civil rights and politics for all, ” the firm noted.

“Our annual convention is meant to be a safe space for all people — regardless of political ideology— who believe in multiracial democracy and the ideal of building a more perfect union, ” the group said. “To that end, the NAACP has made the decision to break with tradition and not invite Donald Trump or J. D. Vance this year. This administration does not respect the Constitution or the rule of law. It would be a waste of our time and energy to give a platform to fascism, which would be unacceptable. ”
