It seems the country has reached a new low. In 2025 alone, there have been over 350 mass shootings. Meanwhile, liberals and conservatives continue to blame each other instead of combatting this issue that is clearly plaguing America.
President Donald Trump has been attempting to blame the so-called “radical left” for a spate of political violence that has lately plagued America. However, others, such as beloved journalist Don Lemon, have caught major flak for simply saying what the data really shows: more than half of mass shootings are committed by straight white men, according to Statista.

Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael and William ‘Roddie’ Bryan in Georgia

In 2020, Ahmaud Arbery was out for a casual jog when three white men spotted him. Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan chased Arbery down and shot him, according to CNN. The men told the court they feared Arbery committed a crime, but a jury found all of them guilty and sentenced them to life in prison. FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement, “Those who commit hate crimes target what makes us who we are as Americans, striking at the very heart of our society.”
Stephen Paddock in Nevada

Because no one can truly know the motive of a 64-year-old wealthy, retired accountant who committed one of the deadliest mass killings in U.S. history, many have speculated over the years. Stephen Craig Paddock shot and killed 60 people and injured hundreds more all from his Las Vegas hotel window in 2017, according to BBC. He took his own life before police could apprehend him. There was no suicide note or manifesto. Investigators simply concluded Paddock committed this heinous crime to fulfill his “desire to die by suicide” and “attain a certain degree of infamy via a mass casualty attack.”
Jared Lee Loughner in Arizona

Twenty-two-year-old Jared Lee Loughner showed up to then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ “Congress on Your Corner” event in 2011 with the intention of killing her, the Department of Justice (DOJ). Although Loughner shot the Arizona political in the head, she survived. Unfortunately, Loughner killed six others and wounded several more. He was sentenced to life without parole.
Thomas Matthew Crooks in Pennsylvania
Trump was in the middle of his presidential campaign in July 2024 when he made a stop in Pennsylvania. While on stage, police said Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was armed with an AR-15, took a shot at the president, BBC reported. Video from the incident showed the bullet grazed Trump in his ear. Crooks was shot dead.
Vance Boelter in Minnesota

The country was shocked after news that Minn. Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were shot dead in their own home. Around the same time, Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, became victims of a similar attacks, but they survived. Police arrested Vance Boelter for the deadly murders and the attempted murders, the DOJ reported. He’s been indicted on six federal charges and faces life in prison.
Solomon Peña in New Mexico
In 2022, Solomon Peña became the Republican nominee for the New Mexico House of Representatives. But after losing the election, Peña decided to take matters into his own hands in order to address the “rigged” results. He the hired father and son Demetrio and Jose Trujillo to kill his political rivals, the DOJ reported. He tried to cover his tracks and put another hit out, this time on the Trujillo men. He was sentenced to 80 years in prison.
Robert Card II in Maine

Loved ones of former U.S. Army reservist Robert Card II expressed their concerns for his mental health before tragedy struck, NPR reported. But they couldn’t stop the man from walking into a bowling alley in Maine and doing the unthinkable. Back in 2023, Card shot and killed 18 people before turning the gun on himself.
Payton Gendron in New York

In 2022, Payton Gendron walked into a grocery store located in a Black neighborhood in Buffalo, N.Y. Gendron later told police he singled out this store because of the predominant Black population. He pleaded guilty after shooting and killing 10 people and injuring three others, according to NBC News.
Patrick Wood Crusius in Texas

Patrick Wood Crusius was sentenced to 90 consecutive life sentences after the 2019 mass shooting inside a El Paso Walmart. According to the DOJ, Crusius targeted the store in order to honor his white supremacist beliefs. He reportedly wrote a manifesto, titled “An Inconvenient Truth,” where he accused Hispanic immigrants of invading the country, rhetoric which has been championed by Trump’s MAGA movement.
Dylann Roof in South Carolina

According to court records, Dylann Roof walked into Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S. C. and was reportedly welcomed by the church members during their Bible study. “The parishioners welcomed Roof, handing him a Bible and a study sheet,” the court said. “For the next 45 minutes, Roof worshipped with the parishioners. They stood and shut their eyes for closing prayer.” That’s when he pulled out a gun and opened fire.
The 2015 shooting claimed the lives of nine Black people. After his arrest, police infamously brought the now-convicted killer food from Burger King, ABC 7 reported. The act was highly criticized. Roof was sentenced to death at only 21 years old.
Robert Bowers in Pennsylvania
In 2018, Robert Bowers walked into the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh and opened fire. In total, he killed 11 people, according to the DOJ. “The massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue imposed grievous and far-reaching harms and is a reminder about the ongoing threat that we face as a result of antisemitic violence and hatred in our country,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. Bowers was sentenced to death.
Chris Harper Mercer in Oregon

In 2015, Chris Harper Mercer was armed with six guns when he opened fire at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore., BBC reported. Although all of his weapons, in addition to the seven weapons found in his home, were bought legally, Mercer managed to kill eight students and one teacher. He was shot and killed by police during a shootout after the mass killings.
Ryan Christopher Palmeter in Florida

Police said Ryan Christopher Palmeter’s fatal attack on a Dollar General store in Florida was a clear hate crime. Back in 2023, Palmeter wore a mask while he walked into the store, PBS reported. He then pointed his gun, which had a swastika written on it, at several Black individuals and fired. In total, he killed three people before turning the gun on himself.
Anderson Lee Aldrich in Colorado

In 2022, Anderson Lee Aldrich opened fire in the middle of an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, the DOJ reported. He pled guilty to 74 hate crimes and firearms charges in addition to the murders of five people. He was sentenced to “55 concurrent life sentences to run consecutive to 190 years in prison,” the department reported.
Brandon Scott Hole in Indiana
In 2021, Brandon Scott Hole opened fire on an Indiana FedEx he used to work at. Police said the attack was a “suicidal murder,” and Hole attempted to “demonstrate his masculinity and capability” before turning the gun on himself, according to NPR. He killed eight people in total.
